Kyle Whittingham has the Michigan Wolverines recruiting at an elite level right now, and while we need to see some on-field results, it’s still a good sign to see the recent success on the trail. Michigan has landed a good number of players this spring, and more are coming with a full slate of official visits on the horizon. Let’s catch up on the latest in today’s Recruiting Roundup.

Michigan eyeing intriguing role for 2027 QB

A new target emerging for the Wolverines is 2027 three-star quarterback Khylan Davis, who committed to UTSA back in April. The Wolverines are going after him despite his commitment, and a recent in-home visit seemed to be a success.

“The in-home visit went great,” Davis told The Michigan Insider’s Brice Marich ($). “We had a real good conversation about the program, the coaching staff and how they see me fitting into what they’re building. Coach (Koy) Detmer was mainly telling me to stay focused, keep working, and that they believe in my potential both on and off the field. Coach Detmer is a great coach and a great person overall. Our relationship has been strong and he’s somebody I can talk to honestly. I respect the way he coaches and the way he believes in me as a player and person.”

What’s interesting about this recruitment is the plan Michigan has for Davis. He is a quarterback, but the coaching staff sees him playing a variety of positions. They’re calling it “Mr. Football.”

“The role that their labeling me as is Mr. Football, which means I’m going to be playing a variety of positions. I think it’s a great opportunity honestly,” he said.

Michigan is hosting a plethora of top targets in June, and Davis is one of them. He will be in town the weekend of June 12.

“I’m excited for it for sure,” Davis said. “I’m mainly looking forward to seeing the culture, spending time with the staff and players, and learning more about the program.”

Michigan in “full court press” for four-star DL

Another player who will be taking an official visit to Michigan soon is 2027 four-star defensive lineman Seth Tillman. He has a top five of Michigan, South Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky and Clemson, and he’ll be taking his official visit to Michigan the weekend of June 5.

“I feel like everybody’s kind of even right now in the top group,” Tillman told On3’s Ethan McDowell ($). “I commit July 11.”

The Wolverines were actually one of the later schools to go after Tillman, but they are now going all in.

“They offered me late, but they’ve been pushing — like they say — a full court press on me, and they really boosted up my recruitment,” Tillman said. “…It was to a point where I went to go see them, then the next week they came to see me and then, literally the next week, they came to see me again, which showed me they really want me. It really put me on notice about Michigan.”

Tillman has already been on campus once, as he came to Ann Arbor in April and watched a practice. Michigan made a good first impression.

“When I first went there, I had a real great feeling about it,” he said. “…I really liked the practice. It was a smooth practice, but you could tell it was real intense. They really, really love football down there at Michigan.”

During his official visit, Tillman is hoping to spend more time with the players to see what the experience of playing at Michigan is truly like.

In-state edge target commits elsewhere

Yesterday afternoon, 2027 four-star edge rusher Myles Smith announced his commitment to the Indiana Hoosiers over Michigan and a few other programs.

The Farmington, Michigan native was a longtime target of Michigan’s old coaching staff, but Kyle Whittingham and company were a bit slow to ramp up this recruitment. The Wolverines made up some ground and locked in an official visit for the month of June, but that visit is unlikely to happen at this point following Smith’s commitment to the Hoosiers.

The Wolverines — who already hold commitments from a couple pass rushers in four-star Jayce Brewer and four-star Recarder Kitchen — will now fully focus on a small handful of other players at the position in the 2027 class. This includes four-star Cal commit Troy Bowens, four-star Marvin Nguetsop, three-star Ifeanyi Emedobi, three-star Alex Johnson and three-star Jag Ioane.
