The one state that had appeared to be off limits for Michigan football had long been the state of Mississippi. Before last year's recruiting cycle, only one prospect, former safety Jeremy LeSueur, had been the only player from the Magnolia State who had joined the maize and blue.

However, last year, the Wolverines got a commitment from three-star linebacker Kaden Catchings, a Mississippi native, and they already have one commit from the SEC stronghold in four-star running back Tyson Robinson committed to the 2027 class.

Now, they're trying to make it two.

2027 Greenwood (Miss.) four-star linebacker Frederrick Ford was only offered by Michigan football earlier this month, on June 4. However, he quickly took an unofficial visit and then an official visit to Ann Arbor in the same week. With his decision coming up on Thursday evening, Ford is deciding between Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Tennessee, and LSU. And it appears he's leaning maize and blue, as he's received predictions from 247Sports' Steve Robertson, Rivals' Ethan McDowell, Chad Simmons, and Zach Berry.

Here is the scouting report on Ford from 247Sports' Andrew Ivins:

-Dangly hit-and-run linebacker that can collect stops around the field.-Pairs a projectable 6-foot-3 frame with exceptional athletic markers: 91 explosion score, 4.7 seconds in the 40-yard dash.-Charges forward and will beat ball carriers and block to the perimeter.-Runs feet through contact, frequently firing through the hips.-Fluid in zone coverage while reach tends to give him an advantage in man-to-man looks.-Got looks in the box, in the slot and up top as a junior while also hunting heads on special teams units.-Will need to improve the sonar in the coming years while also adding some much-needed weight, but has no shortage of developmental upside with his range and physicality.-Projects as a potential impact defender at the Power Four level in an era where everyone wants to get longer and faster.

Ford is expected to make his pledge around 6:30 p.m. EDT on the CBS Sports college football YouTube channel. Listed at 6-foot-4, 203 pounds, he's rated highest by ESPN, which has him as the No. 140 player in the country, regardless of position.
