Official visit season is upon us, as Michigan is readying to host a plethora of top talent on the recruiting trail over the next four weeks. And while Kyle Whittingham and the Wolverines prepare for that, one of their longest tenured committed prospects is taking a trip elsewhere this weekend.
As posted on his Instagram page on Thursday night, three-star safety Maxwell Miles is taking an official visit this weekend to Minnesota.
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Las Vegas native pledged to Michigan back in March and has stayed true to that commitment since then. However, he also took a trip to UNLV in the spring and is now taking this official visit to a Big Ten rival. If we are going solely based off vibes right now, it doesn’t feel like Miles will eventually sign with the Wolverines when that time comes.
Former safety commit Darrell Mattison did something very similar earlier this year where he visited Ole Miss, decommitted from Michigan and eventually committed to Ole Miss. It doesn’t sound like a decommitment and/or flip is imminent, but it also would not surprise me if that is the route Miles ends up going down.
At the end of the day, I have faith in Whittingham and the assistants to put together a solid 2027 recruiting class, whether that be with or without Miles. We will keep you updated with this recruitments as more developments are available.
