The Michigan Wolverines are set to add two players from the transfer portal in the middle of the season — former Miami tight end Alex Bauman and former Boise State cornerback Jeremiah Earby. They were both granted a preliminary injunction for a fifth year of eligibility on Tuesday in Washtenaw County Circuit Court and could be eligibile to play immediately.
Bauman began his career at Tulane, compiling 63 catches for 610 yards and 13 touchdowns in three years there. The New Jersey native also caught the game-winning touchdown to beat USC in the Cotton Bowl in 2022.
The 6-foot-5, 250-pound tight end transferred to Miami for the 2025 season, where he racked up 18 receptions for 166 yards and one touchdown. He helped the Hurricanes reach the College Football Playoff National Championship Game. Now, Bauman is set to spend his fifth and final year of eligibility with the Wolverines.
The production from Michigan’s tight ends has been underwhelming this season, so adding Bauman’s experience, size and run-blocking ability could provide a significant boost to the offense.
Meanwhile, Earby has familiarity with Michigan first-year safeties coach Tyler Stockton. The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder racked up 60 total tackles, four interceptions, nine pass breakups, one fumble recovery and 0.5 sacks for the Broncos a season ago. For his efforts, he earned a spot on the All-Mountain West Second Team.
Earby is an interesting addition, as the Wolverines have been pretty good for the most part — other than a handful of penalties — in the secondary this season. Zeke Berry, Jyaire Hill, Smith Snowden, Chris Bracy and Rod Moore all make up a veteran-led secondary for Michigan, so adding another fifth-year player in Earby can only help the group even more.
