Michigan State football is officially off to a 2-0 start in 2026, and staying perfect to begin the Pat Fitzgerald era in East Lansing. The Spartans defeated Eastern Michigan 35-7 inside of Spartan Stadium.

Overall, it is a pretty looking final score for the Spartans, but things did not always look that way. It was an uninspiring first half for MSU, only leading 14-7 after the opening 30 minutes. In the second half, though, the Spartans had the spark the Spartans fans were looking for.

Michigan State outscored the Eagles 21-0 in the second half, while outgaining EMU 329-57 in the yards department.

Leading the way for the Spartans, who had 258 rushing yards in the game, was Cam Edwards. He finished with 21 carries for 152 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Alessio Milivojevic went 12-for-20 through the air, gaining 170 yards with a touchdown. His leading receiver was Charles Taplin, finishing with three catches for 65 yards and a touchdown, while Jayden Savoury finished with four catches for 63 yards.

Defensively, Devin Vaught and Brady Pretzlaff paved the way for MSU, finishing with eight tackles a piece. Meanwhile, Eli Coenen was a menace once again, finishing with two sacks on the day.

The Spartans will travel to South Bend next week for a heavyweight fight with No. 3 Notre Dame.
