Michigan-Texas game expected to remain on 2027 football schedule

When Michigan football rescheduled the 2027 Week 3 game against Eastern Michigan from September 18 to the 11th, it cast doubt on whether or not the maize and blue would take the trip to Austin to face off against Texas next season. The Wolverines had hosted the Longhorns in 2024, with the home-and-home set to be concluded next year, but given that the Eagles were suddenly coming to The Big House on the same date that Michigan was set to play UT, it had seemed as if the fourth all-time matchup wasn't as imminent as it had seemed.

However, according to Horns247 insider David Eckert, it appears that the date will be changing for the matchup, but it will not be canceled.

MLive's Aaron McMann had heard the same from the Michigan football side of things as well.

There is a $2 million penalty should the game be canceled if it's not consensual between the programs. The Wolverines still have to play Ohio State, Oregon, at Penn State, at Indiana, and at Iowa next year in addition to likely still playing Texas next season.

It wouldn't surprise if Michigan moved the game up by a week, now that Week 0 is expected to be the new Week 1.
