Michigan's Andrew Marsh Rated Top 5 Nationally by Pro Football Focus

Key Points:

  • Andrew Marsh has impressed
  • He’s formed a dynamic freshman duo
  • Marsh got a top 5 PFF ranking

The Michigan Wolverines are 8-2 on the season and looking to close out their road slate of games with a win in College Park, Maryland this Saturday.

Michigan’s passing game came to life against Northwestern but also gave life to the Wildcats as Bryce Underwood threw two interceptions that almost cost Michigan the game.

On Thursday, Pro Football Focus shared a surprising rating for Andrew Marsh, the Wolverines’ leading receiver who has combined to form arguably the best freshman duo in the nation alongside Underwood.

Marsh Top 5 Nationally in PFF Rating

Pro Football Focus has Marsh listed as their number one wide receiver nationally since Week 6, Michigan’s last loss, according to PFF College.

Marsh got the jump on his competition in high school, becoming the Texas District 19-6A newcomer of the year and continuing his brilliant play ever since.

He was listed as a four-star prospect by On3.com out of Katy Jordan High School in Fulshear, Texas and received positive buzz out of Michigan spring camp.

Marsh Ascends as Season Goes On

Marsh has ascended ever since, becoming the Wolverines’ leading receiver in recent games and forming a rapport with Underwood.

Marsh has size, speed and athleticism that are uncommon for most players at his position and he’s used them all well in recent weeks.

He has 37 catches for 565 yards and two touchdowns with Michigan, sprinting past teammate Donaven McCulley for first place on coach Sherrone Moore’s offense among receivers.

Musical Chairs for Bryce Underwood in the Passing Game

Underwood’s receivers and tight ends have played a game of musical chairs all season as several different players have featured prominent at various times.

Tight end Marlin Klein was Underwood’s go-to guy in Week 1 vs. New Mexico before injuring himself. He’s now 100% and looking to work his way back into form.

Zach Marshall figured prominently in the Wolverines’ Biff Poggi led road win at Nebraska, showcasing the team’s depth at the position.

Former four-star commitment Daekon Tonielli has gained the coaching staff’s favor in recent weeks and has provided a shifty downfield target for Underwood to pass the ball to over the middle.

Donaven McCulley is the Wolverines’ second leading receiver but has taken a backseat to Marsh lately.

Former National Championship winning receiver and kick returner Semaj Morgan has drawn scorn from Wolverines fans for drops throughout the season but he has the championship experience, speed, and pedigree to play a big role down the stretch.

Michigan’s receiving corps isn’t Ohio State’s by a long shot but it’s rounding into form at the right time.

If Underwood can cut down on his mistakes and the Wolverines’ defense and running backs play up to their potential, a College Football Playoff berth could be on the horizon with Marsh playing a big role.
