After the landmark ruling that made Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby eligible to play this season, leadership across college football is taking steps to make their displeasure about the ruling known.
A new report from Yahoo's Ross Dellenger states that the Nebraska athletic department has told coaches not to schedule the Red Raiders in any upcoming athletic contests. The message to coaches also stated that if Texas Tech is currently on the schedule, contact athletic director Troy Dannen immediately.
On Monday, Judge Ken Curry of the 99th District Court of Lubbock County granted Sorsby a temporary injunction in his legal battle against the NCAA. Sorsby had been fighting to regain his eligibility after the NCAA punished the quarterback for betting on his team when he played for Indiana.
Dannen told the Sports Business Journal his thought process regarding the Texas Tech boycott.
"There are a lot of lines that people argue have been crossed in college athletics. As money starts changing hands, there's arguments both ways. There is no argument here. This is a line of integrity of the game and the permissibility of compromise of that integrity that has been crossed and is without precedent in major sports, professional or amateur in the United States."
Nebraska is not alone in boycotting the Red Raiders. Georgia has also directed its athletic programs to avoid scheduling Texas Tech. Tech's own conference, the Big 12, is also actively discussing a boycott of the Red Raiders this season.
