Matt Rhule has every reason to be thrilled with the way Nebraska’s 2027 recruiting class is coming together after landing Gibsonia, Pennsylvania, wide receiver Khalil Taylor.
Taylor becomes the fourth Top 100 prospect in Nebraska’s class and adds another explosive weapon to what is quickly becoming one of the strongest recruiting groups of the Rhule era. At 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds, the four-star receiver possesses the ideal build for a modern playmaker who can stretch defenses and make plays all over the field.
Wide receivers coach Daikiel Shorts deserves plenty of credit for this commitment. Nebraska managed to pull Taylor out of Penn State’s backyard, beating the Nittany Lions for one of Pennsylvania’s premier prospects. According to the recruiting rankings, Taylor is the No. 13 wide receiver in the country, the No. 4 player in Pennsylvania, and the No. 84 overall recruit in the 2027 class.
Speed, Speed, Speed
Taylor’s biggest weapon is obvious the moment his highlight tape starts rolling.
His 10.83-second 100-meter speed is legitimate track speed, and he plays every bit as fast on the football field. He has the burst to separate from defensive backs, the acceleration to turn short catches into explosive plays, and the top-end speed to score from anywhere.
Nebraska hasn’t had this kind of game-breaking speed on the outside since Trey Palmer terrorized Big Ten secondaries in 2022.
The addition of Taylor should also excite five-star quarterback Trae Taylor, who now has another elite target capable of taking the top off opposing defenses. Pairing one of the nation’s best quarterbacks with one of its fastest receivers gives Nebraska fans plenty to dream about over the next few years.
Taylor’s offer list reflects just how coveted that speed is. Penn State, Florida State, Colorado, and Alabama all pursued him, making this a significant recruiting victory for Rhule and his staff.
Rhule’s Best Recruiting Class Yet?
Nebraska’s 2027 class now sits at No. 16 nationally and fourth in the Big Ten, an impressive achievement considering the depth of talent throughout the conference.
Rhule has built the class around five-star quarterback Trae Taylor and continues to surround him with high-end skill talent. Rather than resisting the realities of the NIL era, Nebraska has leaned into it, using every available tool to compete for elite recruits while other programs continue to complain about the changing landscape of college football.
There is still a long way to go before signing day, and keeping this talented group together will be just as important as assembling it. But if Rhule can hold onto the class, Nebraska could be laying the foundation for a roster capable of competing with the Big Ten’s best for years to come.
GBR.
