The Cornhuskers' season begins on Sept. 5 against Ohio, and we now know who will be under center for Nebraska in that contest.
Head coach Matt Rhule announced that transfer quarterback Anthony Colandrea will get the nod in the season opener.
“Anthony would play for us right now,” Rhule said to reporters. “All the quarterbacks have done a nice job. Anthony, I think the biggest thing is he’s very competitive, very fiery. He expects to win every play. He does a nice job disciplining himself to also take what’s there and makes nice checks in the run/pass game, can throw the ball deep.
Rhule also praised Colandrea's athleticism and versatility.
“I think the biggest thing is he extends a ton of plays with his legs, which takes a lot of pressure off of the offensive line, the backs in protection and puts a lot of pressure on the defense," Rhule added.
Colandrea threw for 3,459 yards and 23 touchdowns last season with UNLV, and added 10 more scores on the ground.
