Nick Saban bluntly questions Sam Leavitt injury, Lane Kiffin decision

Few in the college football space know Lane Kiffin better than longtime Alabama head coach Nick Saban.

The duo coached together from 2014-16 before Kiffin moved back into the head coach space by taking the Florida Atlantic job. Saban resurrected Kiffin’s career, like he has with a number of other coaches including Steve Sarkisian, whose Texas Longhorns just took down the No. 1 team in the country.

That said, Saban knows Kiffin – and his antics – well. Those antics were on full display earlier this week when Tigers starting quarterback Sam Leavitt was a surprise addition to the injury report.

During an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show on Friday afternoon, Saban made it clear he doesn’t believe Leavitt is injured.

“If I was a betting man I would say there’s absolutely nothing wrong with Sam Leavitt,” Saban said with laugh. He later suggested Leavitt isn’t even slightly injured and will be 100% for the game against Ole Miss on Saturday night.

ESPN senior writer Pete Thamel previously reported the Rebels’ were also heavily skeptical about Leavitt potentially missing the game.

“No one on the Ole Miss staff is convinced LSU QB Sam Leavitt’s appearance as ‘doubtful’ on the injury report is sincere and he’ll miss the game on Saturday,” he said.

Kiffin’s return to Ole Miss is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
