No. 1 CB John Meredith III names finalists, sets decision date

Momentum building during the summer official visit season for the Texas Longhorns could escalate dramatically when Fort Worth North Crowley cornerback John Meredith announces his decision on Friday.

The 6’2, 175-pounder will choose between Alabama, Texas, and Texas A&M.

The official visit schedule for Meredith in recent weeks tells a slightly different story — while the Longhorns and the Aggies both hosted the consensus five-star prospect over the last several weeks, the Crimson Tide were not able to get him to Tuscaloosa for an official visit. Ohio State was scheduled to get Meredith on campus this weekend, a visit that is presumably not cancelled.

So it’s shaping up as a head-to-head battle between Texas and Texas A&M that ranks as one of the biggest in recent years. Even Denton Ryan linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. wasn’t ranked as highly as Meredith in the 2023 recruiting class when he initially pledged to the Aggies before decommitting and eventually siding with the Longhorns.

Meredith is the nation’s top cornerback and the No. 2 recruit overall, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, just behind Cedar Hill defensive tackle Jalen Brewster, the Texas Tech commit who recently took an official visit to Texas.

The Horns are considered the favorite the land Meredith and bolster a class that currently ranks 16th in the team rankings with 14 pledges.
