On Saturday, GJ Kinne makes his return to the Forty Acres as the head coach of the Texas State Bobcats in the season opener for the Texas Longhorns at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, a game in which head coach Steve Sarkisian’s program is favored by 30.5 points, according to FanDuel’s odds on Sunday.
Kinne spent one season at Texas as a back up to Colt McCoy before going on to a successful career at Tulsa and several seasons in the NFL. Now in his fourth year with the Bobcats, Kinne helms a potent offense led by redshirt sophomore quarterback Brad Jackson while hoping that his hire of Will Windham from South Alabama will lead to an improved defense.
The only previous matchup between the two schools was a 36-0 win by Texas in 1930 over what was then known as the Southwest Texas State Teachers College.
Kick is at 2:30 p.m. Central on ESPN.
