No Sleeping in the Jungle: The LSU Tigers are on the Prowl as official visits continue

LSU is set to have another busy weekend, hosting eight elite prospects for official visits. Things really took off for Lane Kiffin and his staff earlier this week when they were able to close on four recruits and secure four commitments in a 24-hour span. This weekend could lead to similar results. Let’s take a look at who will be coming to campus.

The Tigers are starting the weekend by playing a little bit of get-back with Nebraska. While LSU has hosted several safeties on official visits, Nebraska’s class features one of the best, and he is considered the highest-rated prospect currently committed to the Cornhuskers. That prospect is 4-star safety Tory Pittman III.

Pittman is ranked as the No. 3 safety in the 2027 class by Rivals and is considered a Top-50 prospect by every major recruiting service except 247Sports, which ranks him No. 104 overall. Pittman is from Nebraska, and following a weekend in which the Cornhuskers hosted Louisiana’s top tight end, top basketball player, and current LSU commit Ahmad Hudson, the Tigers now have an opportunity to return the favor. This isn’t just a get-back move, though, as Pittman has legitimate potential to flip his commitment to LSU if the visit goes well.

LSU will also host two 4-star offensive tackles: Kal-el Johnson and Joshua Sam-Epelle.

Johnson was originally scheduled to visit LSU on June 19 but moved his visit up to this weekend. He is ranked as the No. 20 offensive tackle by Rivals and sits right around the Top 200 nationally. The 6-foot-6, 305-pound tackle is from Ohio, though Georgia Tech currently appears to be the team to beat for his commitment.

As for Sam-Epelle, he has several major SEC programs and the national championship runners-up competing for his services. The 6-foot-9, 330-pound tackle from Douglasville, Georgia, is ranked as the No. 14 player at his position by Rivals, while ESPN ranks him No. 9. He is considered a Top-100 player nationally.

Those aren’t the only offensive tackles coming to Baton Rouge. Three-star prospect Amaziah Siale is returning for an official visit after attending LSU’s Elite Camp last week. Siale earned an offer from Eric Wolford during camp and immediately scheduled an official visit for this weekend.

Yes, he’s currently rated as a 3-star prospect, but don’t focus solely on the rankings. Instead, look at his offer sheet, which includes Utah, West Virginia, and Cal, and he is scheduled to take an official visit to Texas next weekend. Siale stands 6-foot-6 and weighs 330 pounds, and his recruitment is gaining momentum quickly.

The defensive line will receive some attention as well, as LSU is bringing in 3-star defensive lineman Jason Johnson. Johnson is a 6-foot-3, 270-pound interior defensive lineman who holds several strong Power Four offers and is considered a player that schools in Texas are trying hard to keep in-state.

Johnson has offers from SMU, Texas, Houston, and Florida. He even canceled a visit to Florida in order to visit LSU this weekend. Another interesting note is that his sister is currently enrolled at LSU, according to Sam Spiegelman of On3.

The final three prospects are the ones to really keep an eye on.

First is 4-star safety Davion Jones. Jones is a 5-foot-11, 175-pound safety from Charlotte, North Carolina. He is a Top-20 safety nationally and a Top-150 prospect overall. Jones is also a teammate of 5-star cornerback Joshua Dobson. While Dobson has removed LSU from his list of top schools, Jones has continued to build his relationship with the Tigers. If this visit goes well, LSU’s momentum with Jones could reach another level.

Next up is 4-star cornerback Brandon Sherrad, who will visit Corey Raymond and DBU this weekend. Sherrad is built exactly how Raymond likes his corners at 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds. He ranks as a Top-25 corner nationally and a Top-200 prospect overall.

Sherrad recently visited Oklahoma, which appears to be LSU’s primary competition at the moment. If Raymond and the staff are able to showcase what LSU can do for defensive backs at DBU, this could become another commitment for the Tigers’ secondary.

Saving the local prospect for last, running back Trey Martin from Franklin Parish will take his official visit to LSU after previously visiting Florida and Ole Miss.

The belief right now is that this recruiting battle is primarily between LSU and Florida. LSU recently received a commitment from running back Brennen Lacey and is also trending for No. 7 running back Tre Segarra. Martin is ranked as the No. 10 running back in the nation. He stands 6 feet tall, weighs 201 pounds, and is considered a Top-200 player nationally.

There have also been discussions between Martin and running backs coach Kevin Smith regarding LSU potentially taking three running backs in this class.

This will be another loaded weekend for LSU. As the Lane Train keeps rolling and more tickets continue to get punched, who would you like to see become the next recruit to join the 2027 class? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
