Football:
A source told 247 Sports National reporter that Chris Jones could have a really big year and be a breakout star for Florida State.
After leading the Sun Belt with 135 tackles last season at Southern Miss, Florida State added the 6-foot-1, 230-pound Jones to be a plug-and-play starter. Coming out of spring practice, that’s the expectation internally among FSU sources, who expect him to be a high-level producer for the Seminoles.
“I could see him having a big year,” a source said. “He’s a really good player.”
And maybe a different one feels just as strongly about Ousmane Kromah.
“He could have a big year,” a source said. “He’s grown a lot just from the mental side of the game. You could always see the physical skills with him, but last year, he didn’t arrive until the summer and didn’t go through spring ball and it was just a lot on him mentally trying to understand stuff like protections. Now, having gone through a season and this offseason, you can see him a lot more comfortable with that to where his game, it shows up more and a lot more consistently.
FSU ties everything to its running game and we know how important linebackers are in this 3-3-5 defense; a nationally relevant year from both of those players could go a long way towards putting Florida State back on the path to being a very good football team.
57 days now until kickoff but take a walk down memory lane with Mr. Boulware:
Recruiting:
Top-100 safety Ta’Shawn Poole, and likely FSU’s best chance at landing an elite recruit cycle considering their summer recruiting woes, has set a commitment date for July 17th as reported by Brendan Sonnone of 247Sports.
He will commit live on 247’s youtube channel at 6pm. Poole is from Macon, Georgia and ranks 68th nationally in 247’s Composite overall rankings.
Poole has been trending to Florida State since he visited there in the middle of June, but the inclusion of Georgia on the official visit schedule late added an unexpected wrinkle. The Seminoles still sit in the best shape heading into what’s expected to be a mid-July announcement, but this is a recruitment many believe will still have some life heading to December.
