Just when you thought the SEC couldn’t get any more interesting, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian joined ESPN’s “College GameDay” to not only boast his team ahead of their anticipated matchup against Ohio State this afternoon, but he also found some time to seemingly take a dig at LSU and Lane Kiffin as well.

What Did Texas HC Steve Sarkisian Say?

Sitting alongside Nick Saban and the rest of the “College GameDay” panel, Sarkisian embraced his Longhorn fanbase, explaining to the hosts that today’s contest was about the product on the field rather than the outside noise other programs are facing.

“We’re not talking about injunctions and TROs and lawsuits. We’re talking about a hell of a football game that’s gonna get played tonight,” he said.

For those unaware of the dispute between LSU and the SEC, both the school’s representatives and conference leaders were battling in recent weeks over a court injunction that allowed former athletes who played in the NFL to return to college football.

Those hearings culminated on Sept. 3, when a Baton Rouge judge granted a preliminary injunction siding with the players and barring the SEC from punishing LSU for rostering them, though the SEC has since appealed and filed its own federal lawsuit.

However, ahead of the Tigers’ Week 1 matchup against Clemson, LSU coach Lane Kiffin decided not to roster the former NFL players, choosing to move forward despite the court ruling in their favor.

The two coaches will face off in November when Texas takes on the Tigers in Baton Rouge, but it would not be a surprise if Kiffin fires back on social media or in a press conference before then.

Sarkisian certainly comes into this afternoon’s game full of confidence after Texas steamrolled Texas State in Week 1, 59-7. However, the real test for the Longhorns is how well they do today against one of the most loaded rosters in the nation in Ohio State.

Arch Manning will, without a doubt, have his work cut out for him, but this is just the kind of matchup that not only makes or breaks your stock as an NFL player but can also have real implications on Heisman Trophy consideration down the stretch.

If the Longhorns can find a way to contain one of the most electric receivers in the nation, Jeremiah Smith, while also limiting the damage done by the Buckeyes’ defense, perhaps Sarkisian and Texas can keep their confidence rolling into Week 3.
