Notre Dame is poised to make a 5-star recruiting statement after a top Fighting Irish target sets a much-anticipated commitment date

Notre Dame appears to have some great recruiting news on the horizon. A new five-star target could be joining the 2027 class soon.

Notre Dame football has been gathering a ton of recruiting momentum over the last several weeks. There appears to be even more good news on the horizon this week from the 2027 recruiting class. This potential news comes in the five-star variety, which could be a massive bump for head coach Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish.

Elite 2027 Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peter’s Prep offensive tackle Oluwasemilore Olubobola is set to make his college decision on Tuesday. The talented offensive lineman is going to pick between the Fighting Irish, Texas A&M, and Miami. Notre Dame is the clear favorite heading into his announcement.

With how well Notre Dame has been recruiting offensive linemen under assistant coach Joe Rudolph, Oluwasemilore would be another tremendous boost to his resume. Even with Rudolph landing the likes of Guerby Lambert, Will Black, and Grayson McKeough over the years, there is a very strong argument that Oluwasemilore is the most physically talented of that group. The Irish staff is also pursuing a couple of other top offensive line targets in Layton von Brandt and Albert Simien.

If Notre Dame does land Oluwasemilore on Tuesday, it could be another step toward landing an elite 2027 recruiting class. They are still pursuing several top-50 and top-100 targets, making for a very busy summer.

Oluwasemilore Olubobola’s recruiting background

Olubobola is currently rated as a consensus top-50 overall player by each of the major recruiting platforms. In the 247 Sports Composite rankings, the talented offensive lineman is rated a five-star, the No. 15 overall player, the No. 43offensive tackle, and the No. 1 player from the state of New Jersey. This is potentially considered an elite player by each site.

If Olubobola’s recruiting rankings don’t impress you enough, his offer list sure will. Some of his top offers so far include the Fighting Irish, Ohio State, Texas, Oregon, LSU, Michigan, Florida, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Miami, Auburn, Florida State, Nebraska, South Carolina, Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Washington, Michigan State, Boston College, Wisconsin, Illinois, Pitt, Vanderbilt, Minnesota, UNC, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Duke, Rutgers, Syracuse, UCLA, UCF, and Wake Forest, among others.

At 6-7 and 280 pounds, Olubobola is an impressive blend of length and movement skills. When you watch his film, it is almost unbelievable that he is so slender at 280 pounds. With a frame to pack on a ton of good weight, this is a player whose upside feels almost unlimited. Olubobola would fit perfectly in an offensive line room that includes the likes of Guerby Lambert and Will Black, but we will see where things go from here.
