The Fighting Irish are 7-8-1 all-time against the Cornhuskers and haven’t played them since 2001. The Cornhuskers won that game by 17, 27-10. The two teams also played in 2000, and the Cornhuskers won that game 27-24.

Prior to those meetings in 2000 and 2001, the last time the two teams met was the Orange Bowl on Jan. 1, 1973. The Cornhuskers crushed the Fighting Irish in that game, 40-6.

It’ll be good to get this series back since these are two famous football programs.

As for the 2026 season, both programs are off to identical 2-0 starts. Notre Dame beat Wisconsin and Rice to open the season, while Nebraska beat Ohio and Bowling Green.

Notre Dame will play Michigan State this Saturday, while Nebraska plays North Dakota. Kickoff for the Notre Dame-Michigan State contest will be at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC, while kickoff for the Nebraska-North Dakota game will be at 7:15 p.m. ET on the Big Ten Network.
