Spring football has been over for a few weeks for the Ohio State Buckeyes.
We’re pretty much in the dog days of the offseason for college football now that we’re a few weeks past spring football. The Ohio State Buckeyes are busy on the recruiting trail right now and summer workouts will be ramping up soon.
Following the spring, there’s a good idea of who the Buckeyes will be. Ryan Day gets QB Julian Sayin for a second season as a starter and he’ll have Jeremiah Smith to throw the football to one more season. Ohio State retooled the defense after losing the majority to the NFL. There’s a lot of noise this offseason about the team Ohio State is going to have this fall.

Ohio State will see No. 3 Oregon, No. 6 Indiana, No. 14 USC, No. 16 Michigan, and No. 23 Iowa during its regular-season schedule in 2026. It’s a jam-packed schedule for the Buckeyes that’ll certainly have them ready for the College Football Playoff with multiple high-level games under their belt.
The Buckeyes’ biggest offseason storyline was replacing offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Brian Hartline with Arthur Smith from the NFL. Ohio State bringing in Matt Patricia a year ago worked out well to replace Jim Knowles. Ryan Day is banking on another NFL hire working out for the Buckeyes.
Ohio State finished the season 12-2 last year with losses in its final two games against Indiana and Miami. The Buckeyes fell in the Big Ten Championship and again in the first round of the College Football Playoff. It was a tough few weeks for the Buckeyes considering they were able to win it all a year previous.
Post-spring rankings keep on coming out and Ohio State continues to be at or near the top. Day and his team have expectations to meet in 2026 with the growing hype.
