The Buckeyes have been heating up on the recruiting trail as of late. Now, Ohio State has been predicted to land a big time player in the class of 2028 at quarterback.
The Ohio State Buckeyes have work to do in the class of 2027 at the quarterback position. Four-star QB Brady Edmunds is in the class, but there's a very real chance he ends up flipping to UCLA.
Ohio State has wanted two quarterbacks in the class, but is likely to settle on one. We know that Tavien St. Clair is up next after Julian Sayin, then it's a bit cloudy.
When it comes to the class of 2028, Ohio State is going to swing big to land perhaps the top player at the position. The Buckeyes landed five-star WR Jett Harrison last week, and the idea of this five-star QB throwing to him is exciting.
Ohio State predicted to land No. 1 QB in class of 2028
The Buckeyes hosted five-star 2028 St. John's Prep (MA) QB Christopher Vargas last month and he was the best high school quarterback to get on campus. Vargas is the No. 1 quarterback in the class of 2028 and the Buckeyes look to have labeled him their guy.
Steve Wiltfong of Rivals has predicted the Buckeyes to land the current high school junior quarterback. Vargas is a 6-foot-4, 175-pound quarterback who has some C.J. Stroud to his game. Schools like Oregon, Alabama, and Auburn are in the mix for Vargas, who knows what he's looking for at the college level.
"I want a place where, if football goes away, I can still become the person I want to be," Vargas said via Rivals. "Then on the football side, I want a coaching staff that can develop me into the player I want to be, but not only the player, the person too."
Vargas would be at a similar talent level to Tavien St. Clair coming out of high school and he looks to be better at this point in high school for both. Ohio State offered Vargas in November of 2024 and was one of the first big-time programs to extend an offer.
Ryan Day has a proven track record with quarterbacks from his work with Dwayne Haskins Jr., Justin Fields, Stroud, and even Will Howard for a season. Vargas is a big-time prospect and would certainly be the headliner for Ohio State if they can land him.
