The Ohio State football program is currently gearing up for the upcoming 2026 college football season. The Buckeyes are looking to bounce back after bowing out against the Miami Hurricanes last year in the college football playoff in surprising fashion.
The Buckeyes lost a great deal of talent to the NFL Draft this spring, especially on defense, but they’ll still be returning some elite offensive talent, including quarterback Julian Sayin and wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, who were recently named as the top quarterback-receiver duo in the college football landscape by JD PicKell of On3 Sports.
“Sayin’s first season as the Buckeyes’ starting quarterback in 2025 was a strong one, as he passed for 3,610 yards (10th-most in FBS) and 32 touchdowns (4th-most in FBS),” noted Daniel Hager of On3 Sports. “Smith hauled in 87 receptions for 1,243 yards (4th-most in FBS) and 12 touchdowns (T6th-most in FBS) last season, earning Unanimous All-American and Big Ten Receiver of the Year honors. Sayin and Smith are both projected as top picks in the 2027 NFL Draft.”

Smith and Sayin torched defenses throughout the regular season last year, which Ohio State finished undefeated on the heels of their 2024-25 national championship run, but unfortunately, they fizzled out in the postseason, losing to the eventual national champion Indiana Hoosiers in the Big Ten Championship Game, before bowing out to Miami in their first playoff game.
Ohio State will have vengeance on their mind when they take the field this year, looking to win their third national championship in three years under head coach Ryan Day, who finally got the Michigan-sized monkey off his back last season.
In any case, Ohio State is set to kick off its season on September 5 against Ball State.
