Ohio State is set for another big recruiting weekend

Ohio State is now 1-1 following a disappointing loss Saturday to Texas. In what can only be described as both a shocking loss and one that feels all too familiar, Saturday’s game was certainly tough to swallow.
However, it is Ryan Day and the Ohio State’s coaching staff’s job to have this team learn from the loss and get better from it, starting with this weekend’s game against Kent State.
Many of the Ohio State football headlines this week will be about the loss to Texas and how the Buckeyes respond to the loss. Because of this, it may be easy to miss Ohio State make recruiting headlines all week as well.
Day and the coaching staff knows recruiting never ends, especially with the current recruiting landscape in college football.
This will be another busy recruiting week for the Buckeyes which will cap off with another home game for Ohio State. With home games come recruiting visits and Ohio State will be playing host to another round of blue-chip recruits for the Kent State game.
The likely biggest name scheduled to visit with the Buckeyes this weekend is 2028 five-star cornerback Nasir Richardson (Newark, NJ / Malcolm X Shabazz) who is one of the top recruits in next year’s cycle.
Richardson is the No. 1 CB in the 247Sports Composite and he is the No. 11 national recruit. He is also the No. 1 recruit out of the talent-rich State of New Jersey.
Ohio State has been recruiting Richardson for a while now and officially presented him with a scholarship offer in the spring when he visited for a recruiting camp. The Buckeyes were not alone as his recruitment really took off in the spring being offered from the likes of Michigan, USC, Oklahoma, BYU, Notre Dame, Florida State, Wisconsin and more.
The Buckeyes are also not alone in hosting Richardson this season for a game day visit. Richardson visited with Penn State for the first week of college football and visited with Michigan this last weekend when the Wolverines upset Oklahoma. He will also likely take more unofficial visits this year as well.
Ohio State has a lot of competition for Richardson, as he is one of the top recruits in the 2028 cycle. It is also still early in the cycle as well, but the Buckeyes have to like being one of the first teams he wanted to visit this season. They will also likely look to get him back on campus later this season as well.
Ohio State’s 2028 recruiting class is already off to a hot start. The Buckeyes already hold five verbal commitments in the class and it is viewed as the No. 1 class right now. It is highlighted by five-star wide receiver Jett Harrison, five-star quarterback Christopher Vargas and five-star edge Jameer Whyce.

Ohio State 2027 five-star edge commit DJ Jacobs (Roswell, GA / Blessed Trinity Catholic) officially visited with Georgia over the weekend. Jacobs committed to Ohio State in Dec. of 2025 and his choosing of the Buckeyes surprised the college football world as it was widely believed he would commit to Miami.
Since joining Ohio State, Jacobs has remained in contact with multiple schools including Miami and Georgia. While committed to the Buckeyes and not saying anything otherwise, Jacobs recruitment will likely never feel certain until he signs his name.
Ohio State 2027 five-star wide receiver commit Jamier Brown (Huber Heights, OH / Wayne) saw his team get its first win of the season last Friday and the blue-chip prospect played a large role in the win. Brown recorded an impressive three touchdowns in the victory.
