The Ohio State Buckeyes and head coach Ryan Day's massive run on the 2027 recruiting trail may take a substantial hit this week.
This offseason, the Buckeyes have done an incredible job of building up their defense for the foreseeable future by landing multiple talented prospects, including five-star defensive lineman Marcus Fakatou and four-star defensive lineman Karlos May. However, on the offensive side of the ball, Ohio State may miss out on a huge weapon from the south in the 2027 class.
On Monday morning, Rivals' Pete Nakos officially logged his expert prediction for 2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges, as he expects him to commit to the Tennessee Volunteers over Day and the Buckeyes.

Will Ohio State Lose Out on Gabriel Georges?
Gabriel Georges, who is widely considered to be the top running back prospect in the 2027 class, has been a primary target for the Buckeyes in the current recruiting cycle.
Standing at 6-foot, 205 lbs., the Tennessee native possesses a terrific blend of size and speed that will easily translate to the college level. In his last two seasons at Baylor High School, Gabriel Georges recorded an impressive 2,852 rushing yards and 41 touchdowns on 275 carries. His strong efforts at the high school level caught the attention of many powerhouse programs, but the well-regarded rusher recently trimmed his list down to two schools before the end of the month.
While the battle between Ohio State and Tennessee for Gabriel Georges has lingered for a majority of the summer, neither program was able to pull ahead in the dogfight until Nakos' report on Monday. Earlier this summer, Gabriel Georges took an official visit to Columbus back in May, followed by another official visit to Tennessee last month.
Looking at Ohio State's 2027 class, it's clear that Day and his coaching staff have been all in on Gabriel Georges in the current recruiting cycle, as the Buckeyes have yet to land another running back in its 2027 recruiting class. Ohio State's class is still a consensus top-10 program in this current cycle, but the young star could have massively elevated the Buckeyes.
Gabriel Georges is set to announce his commitment on Wednesday, Jul 22 at 5:30 PM EST on the CBS Sports College Football YouTube Channel.
