Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is not the leading receiver in school history. The star wideout broke OSU's career receiving yard record during Saturday's game against Kent State.
Smith surpassed Michael Jenkins' mark of 2,898 yards with a 23-yard grab on Ohio State's second drive of the game. This set the record before Smith added at least three more receptions on the day.
The Buckeye's junior, who is projected by many as a top-five pick in the 2027 NFL draft, is on pace to have another 1,000-yard season in Columbus. This could be the year he makes a serious run as a Heisman Trophy contender. Smith had 179 catches for 2,873 yards and 30 touchdowns coming into Week 3. He had 315 yards and three touchdowns through Ohio State's first two games.
Smith needs six touchdowns to break Chris Olave's school record of 35, which he's expected to break in the coming week. He's also 27 catches shy of surpassing Emeka Egbuka's school record of 205 total receptions. Needless to say, Smith will likely leave Ohio State as the Buckeyes' top receiver in all three major categories.
