Oklahoma State football avoids Big 12 fine for field storming after Oregon upset

Oklahoma State avoided a hefty fine after fans stormed Boone Pickens Stadium in response to the upset over No. 6 Oregon on Saturday.

The standard Big 12 Conference fine for storming the field is $50,000, but the conference isn't as strict as others like the SEC when it comes to applying those rules. The Big 12 reviews each field storm to see whether the visiting team and the game officials had a safe path off the field, which seemed to be the case at Boone Pickens Stadium.

An Oklahoma State official confirmed to The Oklahoman that the conference is not going to fine the school for the storming, citing the reason as OSU following protocols and getting Oregon off the field promptly.

Last year, Arizona State was fined that amount for storming the field after its fans rushed the field following a win over Texas Tech. On another occasion, the Big 12 decided the school had followed its field storm management procedures after a win over No. 22 Iowa State.

According to Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark, "The Big 12 prioritizes the safety of all players, coaches and officials."

There were at least three ankle injuries and over 40 heat-related incidents following OSU's field storming, all related to Oklahoma State fans.

OSU fans took the goal posts from the stadium all the way to Theta Pond in celebration of the win.

OSU was recently fined $50,000 after fans were caught allegedly saying anti-Mormon chants in a basketball game against BYU. The school didn't appeal.
