Oklahoma State pulled off a shocking upset against the No. 6 Oregon Ducks at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Oklahoma, beating the odds as a 24-point underdog and bringing out the best in quarterback Drew Mestemaker.
Mestemaker, who nearly ended up in the SEC or with the Ducks this offseason, put on a passing clinic as he completed 26-of-43 passes for 317 yards and two touchdowns in a 39-31 Cowboys win. Mestemaker’s two interceptions were overcome by the Cowboys as they avenged their 69-3 loss to the Ducks from 2025.
Afterward, Mestemaker shared brief but powerful comments on how the game went and what it meant for him after an offseason of transfer portal suspense.

“This is the best moment of my life, honestly. Not even close,” Mestemaker said according to David Ubben of The Athletic.
The Cowboys outgained the Ducks, one of college football’s most explosive teams, by a final tally of 554 to 281 yards while averaging 6.7 yards per play to 4.8 for the Ducks. Ducks Heisman Trophy candidate Dante Moore was held to 191 yards passing and -9 yards rushing by a Cowboys defense that sacked him four times, including one each from Ethan Wesloski, Malik Charles, Jaleel Johnson, and Keviyan Huddleston.
The schedule loosens up on September 19 for coach Eric Morris’ team as the Cowboys will host the Murray State Racers leading up to September 26’s Big 12 opener at home against the West Virginia Mountaineers.
The Cowboys’ win over the Ducks was a big one not just for Mestemaker and Morris’ team, but also for the Big 12. It’s one the College Football Playoff selection committee will remember all season long, and one that Mestemaker and his teammates will likely never forget.
