STILLWATER — The shine the Colorado football team possessed when it rejoined the Big 12 in 2024 has worn dull by the time the Buffaloes return to Stillwater.
Saturday for homecoming, Oklahoma State hosts Colorado for the first time since a Thursday night game in 2009 when quarterback Brandon Weeden introduced himself to OSU fans with a two-touchdown performance in the second half.
The high-scoring offense that made Colorado exciting in coach Deion Sanders’ first years in the Big 12 has disappeared. Colorado is averaging just 19.5 points per game, last in the Big 12.
Colorado hung tough with two of the Big 12’s best teams, Texas Tech and Utah, but hasn’t come out with a victory. The Buffaloes haven’t won a game in more than a month since they beat Weber State on Sep. 12.
Let’s take a look at this week’s matchup:

When: 6 p.m., Saturday
Where: Boone Pickens Stadium, Stillwater

Scouting Colorado
2026 Record: 2-4 overall, 0-3 Big 12
Best player: Former Tulsa Golden Hurricane wide receiver Joseph Williams has had two 100-plus yard receiving games and ranks No. 4 in the Big 12 with 508 receiving yards this season. Williams has big-play potential and he even tossed a 49-yard pass against Baylor. Williams started his career at Tulsa in 2024 and has spent the past two seasons at Colorado.
The case for Colorado: Colorado has been competitive in all three of its Big 12 games. The Buffs were tied in the fourth quarter against Baylor, led TTU 7-3 at halftime and held a third-quarter lead against Utah. The Buffaloes do a decent job getting to quarterbacks (13 sacks tie for No. 6 in the Big 12) and could stay in the game with OSU if they can cause some havoc against a turnover-prone Cowboy quarterback Drew Mestemaker.
The case for OSU: Colorado won’t be able to score enough points to beat the Cowboys. Colorado is still searching for answers at quarterback. After benching 5-star quarterback Julian Lewis at halftime of the Baylor game, Sanders turned to junior Isaac Wilson who has thrown five interceptions and is completing 57.4% of his passes in three games as full-time quarterback. Colorado has been held under 15 points in four games.
