Coach Pete Golding’s Ole Miss football team scored perhaps the biggest win of Week 3 in college football, beating LSU 32-24 on a day when QB Trinidad Chambliss looked like a Heisman favorite. Star running back Kewan Lacy scored the first touchdown of the day for Golding’s squad but left with a worrisome shoulder injury.
Lacy’s injury looked bad, but there is now hope for a return based on a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
“Sources: Ole Miss star running back Kewan Lacy had an MRI on his shoulder today, and the injury is not expected to be long term. He’s uncertain for the game at Florida on Saturday, as he’ll be monitored this week to gauge his recovery.”

Ole Miss has a big target on its back after ascending to the fourth spot in the latest rankings. The Rebels’ rushing attack looked strong in the early going against coach Lane Kiffin’s LSU Tigers, but finished with just over 60 yards as Chambliss and the passing game carried the load in Lacy’s absence.
Lacy’s backup is JT Lindsey, who looked good in limited action vs. the Tigers with four carries for 20 yards, an average of five yards per carry. Chambliss has the ability to scramble for yardage and throw on the run, which could help keep the Gators’ defense at bay in Week 4.
September 26’s game at The Swamp now looks like one of the biggest on the college football calendar, a testament to the Rebels’ big win, and talented team. Coach Golding knows the SEC schedule won’t get any easier, and he also knows all too well about the immense talents Lacy brings to the table. Ole Miss’ depth will be tested, and Lindsey could soon find himself in the spotlight as the Rebels look to win their fourth game in four tries.
