Ole Miss' Suntarine Perkins stares Lane Kiffin down as LSU coach exits field

Lane Kiffin's return to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium to take on a Mississippi football program he had meticulously built up over six seasons was, as one might expect, an emotionally fraught reunion.

That was evident even well before kickoff: The LSU coach noted how it took him leaving to get fans to fill the stadium an hour before game time. He also threw a football into the stands as he exited the field after the Tigers' pregame warmups.

Those emotions didn't suddenly disappear after Trinidad Chambliss and Co. defeated their former coach, 32-24.

Video shows that, as Kiffin exited the field following the defeat, Rebels linebacker Suntarine Perkins stood in the way of his former coach, smiling at him before an officer moved him aside. Another player – it appears to be running back Kewan Lacy – was also in Kiffin's path.

(It wasn't all hostile, as senior defensive tackle Jamarious Brown can be seen hugging his former coach in the beginning of the clip).

At least one player openly acknowledged the heightened emotions of playing against their former coach. Chambliss said he may have cast a glance or two over at the LSU sideline as he logged two passing touchdowns and another rushing score.

"Just a lot of emotions throughout this game," Chambliss told reporters after the game. "You kind of black out when you’re playing a big game in front of so many people, just a lot riding on it. So yeah, I might have been looking over at that sideline. Just the emotions kind of came out.

"It’s definitely weird. It was different seeing him, I guess run out and seeing him in purple and gold and seeing some of the other coaches on the other sideline with another team. … I wasn’t able to catch him after the game. There was just a lot going on. I think he got out of there pretty quickly."
