The Oregon Ducks and head coach Dan Lanning are due for a massive year during the 2026 college football season.
Despite failing to reach the National Championship over the last two seasons, Lanning's squad continues to draw attention from national media throughout the offseason. This substantial hype between the fanbase and the media will not matter until Week One, but the Ducks roster building this offseason puts the program in a terrific spot to compete in 2026.
Earlier this offseason, longtime college football analyst Phil Steele revealed his preseason top-40 teams for the upcoming season, with the Ducks claiming the No. 6 spot.
"QB Dante Moore could have been a first-round pick but opted to return, and the Ducks have my No. 2 and defensive line and No. 8 offensive line in the country," Steele wrote. "They won a pair of playoff games last year, and this is Dan Lanning's best team in his five years."
Could Oregon Win the National Championship in 2026?
After losing to the eventual National Champion in the last two College Football Playoffs, it's clear that Lanning and the Ducks will be seeking revenge in 2026.
One of the key reasons why Oregon remains a consensus top-10 program heading into the upcoming season is the return of quarterback Dante Moore. The electric playmaker could have entered the 2026 NFL Draft, but ultimately decided to return for another season. Moore finished his 2025 campaign with 3,565 passing yards, 30 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, but his familiarity with the program should help improve his stats for the 2027 NFL Draft.
Outside of Moore, Lanning did an excellent job of retaining multiple veterans from last season, while simultaneously using the transfer portal to fill out the rest of the roster. Defensive tackle A'Mauri Washington and former Minnesota Golden Gophers safety Koi Perich are set to be the main catalysts on defense, along with sophomore cornerback Brandon Finney Jr.
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Ducks are tied with the Indiana Hoosiers for the fourth-best odds to win the National Championship at +800. Oregon trails behind the Ohio State Buckeyes (+500), the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (+650), and the Texas Longhorns (+750) for the best odds.
