Oregon HC Dan Lanning Didn't Sound Too Happy After Barely Beating Boise St

Boise state gave Oregon a run for its money when they had Ashton Jeanty at running back in 2024. Two years later, quarterback Maddux Madsen nearly played the spoiler in a 34-27 Oregon win at Autzen Stadium on Saturday.

The Ducks lost the turnover battle 1-0 on a muffed punt return by receiver Evan Stewart. The story of the day was penalties, as Oregon committed 10 penalties for 90 yards to Boise State's three penalties for 25 yards. 

Following the game, Oregon head coach Dan Lanning told the CBS Broadcast that his team had a much to improve on before playing Oklahoma State next week.

"There's a lot to fix," Lanning said. "There's a lot to clean up. I think these guys are going to come out motivated to be able to attack that, right? We didn't play as well as we could play today.

"Boise State did a great job, right? We didn't. We had enough at the end. Our quarterback (Dante Moore) played well throughout the day. So kudos to him. We got to figure out to get a stop. We got to figure out to play cleaner as a team."

Moore had a career day, going 28 of 37 passing for 378 yards and three touchdowns. Moore told the CBS broadcast that he wasn't surprised by the effort the Broncos showed on Saturday, but he was glad to earn the win.

"Yeah, we knew it wouldn't be an easy game," Moore said. "They came here two years ago, put up put up the same effort, and as a guy that experienced that game, we knew they you know it won't be a cakewalk.

"So when you know when we're down, we're up. We always had you know next play mentality, so we made sure that we kept dialing our process. They made great plays, we made great plays, and we came out victorious."

What matters is that Oregon avoided a disaster. They will next go on the road to play Oklahoma State on Sept. 12. The Cowboys lost to Tulsa 24-10 on Saturday, and first-year head coach Eric Morris will be motivated to earn his first win with OSU by taking down the Ducks.
