Oregon HC Dan Lanning Has 1 Major Concern Heading Into Scrimmage

The Oregon Ducks boast one of the most complete teams in the country.
With quarterback Dante Moore, Dakorien Moore, Evan Stewart, Jamari Johnson, the Ducks passing game is expected to be elite. When running back Jordon Davison returns from his injury in six to eight weeks, Oregon should have one of the deeper backfields when paired with Dierre Hill Jr.
The defense has one of the deepest defensive lines and a solid secondary with cornerback Brandon Finney Jr. and Koi Perich.
It's no wonder Oregon head coach Dan Lanning has had a hard time evaluating what the strengths of his team are with such solid competition on both sides of the ball.
When speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Lanning said his main concern for the team's scrimmage on Saturday is to find out how the team does with tackling. He wants to see his offense break tackles, while he wants to see his defense complete them.
"We're not there yet. We're not to Saturday, so I'm really worried about tomorrow's practice first," Lanning said of the scrimmage. "But when we get to that point, you know, it'll be fun to see our guys go out there and compete, tackle, right?
"Some of these 'thud' drills, you get a false sense of if we're a good tackling team. When you actually take some guys to the ground and challenge yourself in that aspect, I think it puts us in position to be a lot better and really evaluate, are we a team that can break tackles, or we a team that can make tackles?"
The scrimmage on Saturday will help prepare Oregon for its opener against Boise State in Week 1. The defensive and offensive units for the Ducks should look better when they're going against the Broncos, and not members of their own team.
Another concern for the Ducks should be injuries. Injuries were a problem for Oregon last season, as Stewart's absence was a big miss on offense.
Davison's injury is a big blow for the beginning of the season. Oregon will keep its fingers crossed that they come out of the scrimmage healthy.
