Oregon’s Evan Stewart arrested on DUI charge after sitting out Nebraska win

Oregon wide receiver Evan Stewart was booked into the Springfield Municipal Jail on a charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants early Sunday, hours after sitting out the Ducks’ comeback win over Nebraska with an undisclosed injury.

A jail employee told KATU that Stewart was booked around 7 a.m. PT and released about an hour later to a third party whose name matches another Oregon wide receiver. Oregon hadn’t publicly responded to the report as of Monday morning.

What happened with Evan Stewart?

KATU sports reporter Hallie DeVore reported that Springfield police identified the third party as Dakorien Moore. Oregon’s sophomore receiver by that name is tied with Stewart for the team lead with four touchdown catches. Eugene station KVAL also confirmed the booking with the jail.

KATU’s report followed social media posts claiming several Ducks players had been arrested over the weekend. Neither station has confirmed any other arrests, and no details on the circumstances behind Stewart’s charge have been released.

Stewart opened last week as questionable on Oregon’s availability report, dropped to doubtful Thursday and was ruled out with an undisclosed injury before Saturday’s 11 p.m. ET kickoff. He leads the Ducks with 27 catches for 352 yards, and his 44-yard touchdown in the 17-15 home loss to UCLA on Oct. 10 pulled Oregon within two points.

The Ducks were also without quarterback Dante Moore, who’s missed two straight games with a concussion suffered against USC, and receiver Jeremiah McClellan. Oregon coach Dan Lanning replaced starter Brock Thomas with Dylan Raiola in the fourth quarter, and the former Nebraska quarterback beat his old team with a 4-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jamari Johnson with 28 seconds left.

Lanning pointed to the missing pieces after the 17-14 win.

“That being said, it does look like a different group than what we started the season with,” Lanning said. “You thought you’re going to have Jeremiah McClellan, Evan Stewart, right? Dante Moore.”

How has Dan Lanning handled arrests?

Lanning immediately dismissed receiver Traeshon Holden in 2023 after Eugene police arrested the Alabama transfer on two felony charges and a misdemeanor. In a statement at that time, Lanning said that the program was “disappointed when these standards are not met.” Stewart was booked on one DUII charge, according to the jail, and Oregon hasn’t announced any discipline.

Stewart, a former five-star recruit and Texas A&M transfer, missed the 2025 regular season with a knee injury before Lanning named him a breakout candidate at July’s Big Ten Media Days. After the UCLA loss, Stewart described his role in the receiver room as “being a voice for the younger guys and just showing them some decisions that you think are good right now just wouldn’t help in the long run.”

Oregon (4-2, 2-1 Big Ten) visits Illinois on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET on Big Ten Network, and Stewart’s availability for that game hasn’t been announced.
