NORMAN — Fresh off its home loss to Kentucky, Oklahoma now sits at 3-3.
The Sooners were in control of the Wildcats for most of the game before their offense fell apart late. OU is dealing with a plethora of offensive line injuries and John Mateer's turnover issues reappeared against UK.
This week, the Sooners hit the road again.
"We've got to get off the mat and got to go to Starkville," OU coach Brent Venables said. "It's a very unforgiving league."
The Sooners travel to face Mississippi State on Saturday at Davis Wade Stadium. The game will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
Bulldogs coach Jeff Lebby served as OU's offensive coordinator for two seasons from 2022-2023. In Year 3 at the helm, Lebby's two SEC wins through four conference games are already the most of his tenure.

Scouting Mississippi State
Record: 4-2
Best player:Quarterback Kamario Taylor is a star. Before injuring his foot in a win over Missouri and playing through visible pain against Alabama, Taylor was a legit Heisman Trophy contender. The sophomore has thrown for 1,450 yards, 17 touchdowns and four interceptions. But he didn't play in this past Saturday's loss to LSU. His status will be the biggest storyline this week.
The case for Mississippi State: If Taylor and leading rusher Fluff Bothwell return from injury, Lebby's offense should get back to its high-flying ways. And if the Bulldogs' defense can force John Mateer, who has turned the ball over nine times in six games, into mistakes they should win.
The case for OU: The Sooners get healthy on the offensive line and Mateer takes better care of the football. Coach Brent Venables said last week star left tackle Michael Fasusi was close to a return and it'd be huge if OU could finally get him back. The Sooners' defense played great, once again, against Kentucky. If that side of the ball can force more turnovers, OU has a good shot. It would also help the Sooners if Taylor isn't able to give it a go.
