A pair of teams with 1-0 records from schools in “Da Boot” with a guy named Blake Baker on their sideline will square off on Saturday night in Baton Rouge as the SEC’s LSU Tigers host CUSA’s Louisiana Tech Bulldogs as part of week 2 college football action. Let’s check out what is in store for the Tigers’ defense this weekend.
LA Tech QB Blake Baker will attempt to lead his squad to offensive success versus an LSU defense that is led by coordinator Blake Baker (yes, it’s even spelled the same). Last week, Baker passed for 232 yards and three touchdowns during Tech’s 80-6 throttling of Northwestern State.
The Bulldogs gained 528 total yards and punted just twice against the Demons, making for a super-efficient offensive production. Now, as Tech rolls into Death Valley, they will have a little bit of rhythm, confidence, and swagger behind them even in a much tougher environment against a much tougher opponent.
On the flip side, LSU’s Blake Baker had a near flawless defensive gameplan against the Clemson Tigers last weekend. The Tigers limited Clemson to just ten points scored, not giving up a touchdown until the final five minutes of the game.
LSU’s defense has tall, fast, and aggressive playmakers all across the defense. Their constant pursuit of the football allowed LSU to hold Clemson to just one third down conversion in 13 attempts. Anytime a defense can limit an opposing team to fewer than 150 total yards, more so a power four opposition, that will give you an opportunity to secure a victory nine times out of ten.
With the season opener in the rearview mirror and the first SEC showdown of the year on the road in Oxford versus Ole Miss, LSU cannot afford to overlook a talented LA Tech team with a respected coaching staff. The Tigers will need to avoid the “rat poison” and outside noise in order to come away with their second home victory of the season.
