Our offense vs. their defense: Ole Miss Rebels

LSU and Ole Miss are both unbeaten, both ranked inside the top ten ahead of their matchup for the first time since 1962, and both set on a collision course for Saturday’s projected “bloodbath,” but were we expecting anything else for this SEC battle?
The Tigers are coming off of a 45-14 victory over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs at home as the Rebels took care of business in Oxford defeating Charlotte 41-9. These wins brought each team’s record to 2-0 on the young 2026 college football season.
Lane Kiffin’s Tigers come into week three ranking 18th in the league for scoring. LSU’s offensive production has primarily come by way of the passing game as they rank 4th in the nation for yards through the air and 27th rushing.
Meanwhile, Pete Golding’s Rebels currently have the 83rd ranked defense in points allowed as both their passing and rushing yards allowed per game sit towards the bottom of the country at ranks of No. 106 and No. 103, respectively.
LSU QB Sam Leavitt has passed for 574 yards thus far and rushed for five touchdowns. Leavitt has also thrown two TDs, but those are outweighed by his four interceptions. The Tigers’ leading rusher is RB Dilin Jones with a hair under 200 yards on the ground but has scored twice. TE Trey’Dez Green is leading the Bayou Bengals in receiving yards with 162 on his ten receptions and one score.
On the other side of the line of scrimmage, Ole Miss LB Keaton Thomas leads his team with 12 tackles and is constantly flying around the field. LB Luke Ferrelli and DEs Kam Franklin and Jordan Renaud each have one sack through two games.
Rebels’ safety Nick Cull secured the lone Ole Miss turnover for the defense to this point with an interception last weekend versus Charlotte. Cull returned it for a pick-six, but was later called back for stepping out of bounds upon review.
LSU’s offense is seemingly overpowering on paper versus the Rebel defense, but anything can happen on Saturday nights, especially when the Tigers will be entering a hostile environment against a talented roster and coaching staff who is familiar with Kiffin and members of his own staff.
