  • Opponent: Arkansas Razorbacks
  • History: Georgia is 12-4 against Arkansas all time.
  • Last meeting: The Dawgs hold a three-game winning streak over the Hogs. Ok, they won the last meeting 37-0 in 2021, but let’s go back to 2020. Who can forget Georgia’s last trip to Fayetteville? Sure, they were in red pants, but more importantly, Stetson “The Mailman” Bennett came in during the second quarter, and well…the rest is history. Bennett finished the game 20-of-29 for 211 yards and two touchdowns in the 37-10 win. The Mailman holds the record as the only backup quarterback in Georgia history to throw for 200 yards.

What should we know about Arkansas?

First off, we aren’t going to worry about Ryan Silverfield’s comments about Georgia. Last year, while the coach at Memphis, Silverfield shared his thoughts on Georgia’s less-than-spectacular driving record. “Georgia wide receiver arrested for driving 900 miles per hour over the speed limit, and it is called a weekly occurrence.” Not great, Bob. While that goes on the bulletin board of most programs, Georgia is not most programs. Silverfield chose to go low; Smart decided to go high. “That’s much ado about nothing. He made a choice to talk about what he wanted to talk about.” Smart said. “He did apologize about it. I think he was talking about generalities. All coaches show other schools’ mistakes to educate our team. He’s trying to educate his team.”

Arkansas and Silverfield have their hands full. They are 1-1 on the season, with their only win coming in a Week 1 win over North Alabama. Last week, Utah boatraced them in Salt Lake City, 43-10. The 11 am kickoff against Georgia will likely add to the challenges for Silverfield and athletic director Hunter Yurachek.  Yurachek has made a habit of sticking his foot in his mouth when talking about Arkansas football. Last season, he questioned whether the Razorbacks can fully compete in the SEC with NIL dollars. He must have forgotten about all of that Tyson Foods and Walmart money…He also complained in the offseason about the kickoff time for Saturday’s game.

Arguing for the “welfare of his players, ” Yurachek was deeply “concerned and displeased about the recently released kickoff times for our football program in consecutive weeks this September and the impact it will have on the well-being of our student athletes.” Yurachek continued: “ESPN has set our game at Utah for 9:15 p.m. CT on Sept. 12. We anticipated returning to campus at approximately 6 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13 — followed by an 11 a.m. home kickoff against Georgia just six days later on Sept. 19.” With leadership like this, do we wonder why Arkansas is in trouble?

Georgia vs. Arkansas Prediction

Smart and Georgia are not concerned about kickoff time, locations, or any of that. “From a standpoint of recovery, everybody’s going to play pretty much the same number of away games, and everybody’s going to play the same number of home games, for the most part within one or two. You have to navigate that. It’s certainly challenging.” Georgia’s first-teamers on both offense and defense have had lighter loads the first two games, which may help ease some of the strain.

Gunner Stockton is still looking to play a full half for the Dawgs in 2026. Stockton has posted video game numbers in each of the first two games this season. He is 28-for-32 with eight touchdowns.

Still, this will be Georgia’s first SEC road test of the season. Smart cautioned that these environments can help you learn a lot about a team. ” I’ve learned a lot about our teams in the past from going to play in SEC environments when maybe we haven’t played our best, or maybe we get in one of those hornet’s nest games, and you have to fight your way out of it. It just depends on how the game goes.” We think it is all coach speak. Dawgs on top, big this week.
