An incredible 2025 season for a pair of Iowa football stars is continuing to reap benefits in the form of postseason accolades.
Ever since the Hawkeyes finished up their beatdown of Nebraska on Black Friday, two players have seen their names constantly on All-Big Ten, All-American, and player of the year lists: senior center Logan Jones and senior return specialist Kaden Wetjen.
On Monday, Jones was named an AP All-American, alongside fellow offensive lineman Beau Stephens. Last Friday, both Jones and Wetjen were named Walter Camp All-Americans. And now on Tuesday, Jones and Wetjen got to add another accolade to their ledger, as they were both named American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) All-Americans.

Jones was named to the first team, but surprisingly not as the starting center. He was listed as a first-team offensive lineman, with Ohio State‘s Carson Hinzman being named the first-team center. This was a bit odd, as Jones won the Rimington Trophy last week, which is given to the best center in the country. Regardless of where he’s at on the line, this is a great accomplishment for Jones, who’s capping off an excellent season by raking in the awards.
Wetjen was named to the second team as the All-Purpose player, which is even more shocking. Despite having five more punt returns for fewer yards and fewer touchdowns, and not returning a single kick all season long, KC Concepcion of Texas A&M was named the first team All-Purpose player. While this seems like an error on the part of the coaches, it’s still another accolade for Wetjen, who had one of the best seasons you’ll see from a return man.
Iowa fans will have one last chance to watch Jones and Wetjen take the field in the black and gold on New Year’s Eve, when the Hawkeyes meet Vanderbilt in the ReliaQuest Bowl. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT on ESPN.
