Penn State Adds Former Iowa State Tight End Cooper Alexander

If you thought the Iowa State pipeline was close, you were mistaken. The Nittany Lions added another former Cyclone earlier this evening, landing a commitment from rising redshirt sophomore Cooper Alexander.

The 6-foot-4, 245-pound Alexander is from Oklahoma, meaning he has to be the first Penn State Nittany Lion from Oklahoma, right? Definitely the first in the last decade. Anyway, Alexander was a three-star prospect in the 2024 recruiting class that had some really impressive offers: Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Miami, Duke, and Stanford. He ended up selecting Iowa State over Stanford, and worked his way into the tight end rotation as a redshirt freshman. He was used mostly as a blocker, but he finished the season with 5 receptions for 47 yards.

He joins the tight end room to give Penn State five scholarship players (Rappleyea, Brahmer, Burkle, and Kortovich), though walk-on Finn Furmanek did announce he will also be returning to Happy Valley. That should likely be enough for the position group this offseason, though I’m sure tight ends (plural) will be a focus in the 2027 recruiting class.
