Penn State is 3-0 on the season and looks for its first Big Ten win on Saturday against Wisconsin. Wide receiver Koby Howard has been a breakout star so far this year. Earlier this week, Howard got a cryptic injury update.
Now, head coach Matt Campbell is giving more of an update on the receiver, per Audrey Snyder of Inside the Lions.
“Matt Campbell meets with us after practice and says Koby Howard will be out for an extended period of time. Not season-ending, but Howard will be out for a bit,” Snyder posted on X, formerly Twitter.

Howard has been a primary target for Rocco Becht so far this year. He has brought in 12 receptions for 344 yards and two touchdowns. Howard is third in the nation with 28.7 yards per reception. He was injured on a 70-yard touchdown reception against Buffalo in Week 3. He also added a rushing touchdown in the game. At 344 yards, Howard already has more yards than all but two receivers from the 2025 Penn State team.
Penn State will be missing the big plays from Howard in this game. He is the only player on the team with a reception longer than 25 yards, while Howard already has six of them. Further, he has hauled in a reception longer than 40 yards in each of the first three games.
With Howard out of the game, the run game could become more important. This year, Penn State already has four running backs with over 100 yards and a touchdown.
Penn State opens conference play against Wisconsin at 5 pm ET on Saturday.
