Pigskin Palaver: Whatta Whoopdedoo Saturday

How good was Saturday’s football?
Brilliant enough the only time we thought about NIL was when we observed that Larry Ellison’s umpteenth bride Jolin no longer owns the Michigan Wolverines. Bryce Underwood, have a seat on the bench, son.
OK, also in the aftermath of the country’s most expensive roster going from AP Numero Uno to consecutive Ls to unranked teams. For the first time since 1961.
Vaulting Sark, unwilling to give up play calling, into the quagmire of snark and firmly onto the Dead Man Walking List.
Favorite Sequence of the Day. Up 19-10 over favored Alabama, Tennessee got possession not long into the 4th Q. And proceeded to fashion a Manly Man 9:32 drive for a game sealing TD. Old School.
Colors. Speaking of that Third Saturday in October affair, much ado is being made about both schools wearing their colors. Vols in orange. Crimson Tide in, ya know, crimson.
What’s the big whoop?
It oughta be like this for every game unless there is no contrast.
Cats in blue. Cards in red.
Wolverines in maize and blue. Buckeyes in scarlet.
Geez, it’s a no brainer.
Favorite Unis. Coastal Carolina Friday night against App State.
White with turquoise and red and purple and more. Color scheme like those little water cups they’d have in the cooler of the doctor’s office waiting room, like thirty years ago.
No Luck for the Irish. Yeah, Notre Dame got double screwed on that last play. No DPI. No one more play with :01 on the clock.
But, it’s not so instant karma kickin’ ’em in the buttocks.
How many defeated schools have left South Bend through the decades, wondering what happened, didn’t we just get homer jobbed?
Besides, despite leading that almost magnificent last minute drive, QB CJ Carr had the Flub du Jour.
Notre Dame was so close to scoring at the end of the first half, their shadows were crossing the goal line. Then Carr fumbled the snap when a spike which would have stopped the clock.
Brigham Young recovered, and the Cougars two score halftime advantage was secure.
The Irish beat writers and followers and chat room commentariat are not pleased with the result.
Cignetti Impersonator Contest. We’re down to two first year finalists.
Undefeated UCLA’s Bob Chesney.
6-1 Kentucky’s Will Stein.
Where I’m Glad I Wasn’t. In Neyland Stadium, when about half, more or less, of the 100,000 in attendance lit up victory cigars.
Actually there was probably an air quality alert in the entirety of Knox County.
Gus, Gus, Gus. I remember seeing Little Richard for the first time in decades at JazzFest in the 90s. He was a caricature of himself.
Now, the same is true for Gus Johnson.
Not only is his once engaging hyperbole now cloying, but he makes a lot of very basic announcing mistakes. Down and distance, that sort of thing.
