Pittsburgh HC Pat Narduzzi Hints at the Restart of Penn State Rivalry Game

Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi is not afraid of a microphone at all. This offseason, he has said that the ACC is better than the Big Ten, he has expressed confidence in his team, and now, he is spilling the beans on the restart of the Pitt and Penn State rivalry game.

In a day and age where college football is seemingly getting further and further away from the sport that we have all grown to love. No one has any idea of what the future of this game will look like. 

What has also been lost in the new era of college football is some of the old-school rivalries that were played on a yearly basis. Whether it was conference-focused or it was non conference games, some non-negotiables have all but disappeared from the sport.

One of those games was the Pitt versus Penn State game. 

It has been 7 years since these two teams and these two rabid fanbases played each other, and the real crime was that since 2000, there have only been five games between these two programs.

Prior to that, they played 92 times against each other since the year 1900. There were two splits in the rivalry, first from the years 1931 to 1935 and the second from 1992 to 1997. Other than that, Pitt and Penn State were a yearly tradition.

On Monday, Narduzzi was on 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh talking about a number of different topics, one obviously including the rivalry game. 

He said, "Would love to get that (Penn State game) going. From what I hear from a little birdie, there have been some conversations about getting that game back on. There are some conversations about maybe getting that thing going."

This would be a good day for college football if this game were going to become a reality yet again. The truth of the matter is that if there was ever a Penn State coach to put a game like this back onto the schedule, it would be Matt Campbell.

Campbell has been all about building his culture the right way and making sure that they get all the way back to the essence of Penn State Football. 

An incredible first step in that quest to re-establish the program and re-engage the alumni would be to put that cross-state rivalry back on.

The wheels are in motion, and the day that the Pitt and Penn State rivalry is renewed is a great day for all of college football.
