Predicting Big 12 football scores in Week 3: Texas Tech has a lot to prove vs. Houston

College football‘s Week 3 slate will have some intriguing games if you’re a Big 12 fan. It all starts on Friday night when we get a top-25 showdown between No. 22 Houston vs. No. 13 Texas Tech. The Red Raiders’ defense has underperformed, while the Cougars could use a signature win.
There will be some offensive fireworks this weekend as well. Louisiana Tech takes on Baylor, and both offenses are humming right along through two weeks, while Arizona State QB Cutter Boley looks to continue his impressive start against Kansas.

No. 22 Houston vs. No. 13 Texas Tech
A major Friday showdown in the Big 12 will tell us a lot more about both of these teams, but Texas Tech has a lot to prove. The Red Raiders were expected to repeat in the Big 12 this season, after another offseason of hitting the transfer portal, but Texas Tech hasn’t looked like the juggernaut.
The Red Raiders are 2-0, but a Week 2 35-24 win over Oregon State wasn’t impressive. QB Will Hammond has just two passing TDs this season, but the defense is the main concern, and the Red Raiders’ defense will be tested.
Conner Weigman has been good for Houston, passing for 425 yards and four TDs in two games. The Cougars scored 77 points last weekend against Southern, and Houston is looking for a statement win.
Final score: Texas Tech 31, Houston 28
Arizona State vs. Kansas
Both teams appear to have made the right call when it comes to their starting QB. Arizona State opted to start Cutter Boley and he’s been great. The Kentucky transfer has 641 yards and eight TDs in two games, while Kansas’ Isaiah Marshall has 414 yards and four scores.
The Jayhawks were taken down by Missouri in Week 2, while ASU put up a fight against Texas A&M, but the Aggies were too much in the end. While Kansas looks improved, the Sun Devils’ offense is going to be too much for the Jayhawks this weekend.
Final score: Arizona State 35, Kansas 27
Colorado vs. Northwestern
We are going to learn more about Colorado’s offense this weekend. The Buffaloes scored 14 points in a win over Georgia Tech, and then scored 52 points last weekend against Weber State. However, this might be the best defense Colorado has faced this season, playing Northwestern.
The Wildcats have played one game thus far and that was a 34-18 win over South Dakota State. Northwestern doesn’t have an elite team by any means, but the Wildcats usually play tough and they never go down without a fight.
Final score: Northwestern 24, Colorado 21
