Could more good news come out of Victor’s Weekend for Michigan on Thursday?
After welcoming in eight uncommitted targets in the 2027 class to Ann Arbor a few days ago for an official visit, one so far has pledged to the Wolverines in three-star tight end Christian Hanshaw. Now, another might join the fray in four-star linebacker Frederrick Ford.
Two visits to campus this month, including a midweek trip before Victor’s Weekend, brought Michigan to contention status despite offering later than other schools he officially visited. Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Florida State are the primary threats in this recruitment.
Ford told On3’s Ethan McDowell soon following the end of his official visit that a commitment will take place on Thursday at The Opening in Oregon.
“I went in with an open mind, just taking in the weekend,” Ford said. “They already checked all the boxes the first visit. I just was tryna get a vibe, and the vibe was there. “Family, goal oriented, doing what it takes to be successful, natty or bust. I’m competitive, so I like that.”
Ford, a native of Greenwood, Mississippi, replaced a planned official visit to LSU in favor of Michigan. He mentioned his expectations were met on the first flight north, so the return was to solidify those feelings.
Linebackers coach Alex Whittingham and defensive coordinator Jay Hill are leading the way in building a connection with Ford and his family.
“Coach Alex is a proven coach,” Ford said. “Nobody can deny that. He has coached some very talented guys, so it means a lot when he tells you that he sees great potential in you.”
Should Ford pick Michigan, he would be the second linebacker commit for the program in the 2027 class. Right now, the Wolverines yield 18 pledges and have the 13th-ranked class in the country. Ford, who is 6-foot-3 and 195 pounds, is the No. 243 overall prospect, No. 21 linebacker and No. 9 player in Mississippi, per the Rivals Industry Rankings.
