QB Will Drakeford Jr. joins Kentucky Football for the 2026 season

Will Stein and company added a couple of running backs last week, but the recruiting to add some depth for this upcoming season has not ended just yet. This time, it will be a quarterback added to this quarterback room for year one of the Will Stein era

Will Drakefield Jr. broke the news earlier on Monday that he is committed to Kentucky and will join the team for the 2026 season. Drakefield Jr. will commit as a preferred walk-on and add more depth to the quarterback room, backing up Kenny Minchey.

Drakefield Jr. is 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds out of Maryland, by way of Quince Orchard High School, where he recently led the team to an undefeated season, capped by a 4A state championship. As for individual accomplishments, Drakefield Jr. was First Team All-State and racked up 1,795 passing yards and 27 touchdowns to only two interceptions, with 700 yards on the ground and ten more touchdowns.

Quarterback-wise, Kentucky’s room was a little empty early on in the Will Stein era, but that is certainly not the case now. Drakefield Jr. becomes the seventh quarterback on this roster, adding to a room with Callum Wither (5th Year), Carson Cruver (Redshirt Jr.), Kenny Minchey (Redshirt Jr.), Jacqai Long (Redshirt So.), Brennen Ward (Redshirt Fr.), Matt Ponatoski (Fr.), and now Will Drakefield Jr. (Fr.)
