The FSU Seminoles don’t have to search anymore for a quarterback in the 2027 recruiting cycle. Three-star prospect Logan Flaherty committed to the program on Tuesday afternoon, giving Florida Stateseven commitments for the cycle.
Once he decommitted from the UCF Knights last month, Florida State increased its efforts to land Flaherty by sending quarterbacks coach Austin Tucker to visit him, and head coach Mike Norvell got him on the phone recently as well. Flaherty, who is from Port Charlotte, Florida, has strong ties to FSU through his family, and growing up watching them play made his pledge even more special.
“I don’t even think words can truly describe it,” Flaherty told Warchant. “Obviously, as a lot of people know, both my parents graduated from there. A lot of my friends from high school go there. Like I said, it’s a dream come true. I can’t even describe the feelings I have.
“It has been a very long an emotional process and now I’m going to be able to say I’m committed and I’m ready to go, I get to attend the school I’ve been watching since I was eight years old. It’s unbelievable. I’m super grateful for the opportunity I’ve been given and I’m ready to go up, ready to get to work.”
Florida State focused its attention solely on Flaherty once four-star quarterback Wonderful Monds IV committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. However, so did another school, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, who also hosted Flaherty at the end of April.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pounder was very impressed by what he saw when he visited Rutgers, which made it a real possibility that they could swoop in and steal Flaherty from the Sunshine State. Nonetheless, after consulting with those close to him and leaning on his faith, FSU was clearly where he wanted to be.
“At the end of last week I was leaning heavy Rutgers and they were doing a really good job,” Flaherty explained. “Not that Florida State wasn’t doing a good job, I was leaning heavy Rutgers, that’s where my heart was.
“And, you know, Florida State kept pushing, kept calling, kept making it really hard like I was saying. I’m a very religious man so I prayed on it, I talked to my friends, my family members, my coaches on what I should do. They all told me the same thing. They said, ‘Logan you have to go where your heart is at.’ And my heart was at Florida State.”
Flaherty is the nation’s No. 603 player and the. 39 quarterback per Rivals’ industry rankings. He’s also the No. 60 prospect from the state of Florida.
He’s taken several unofficial visits, but Flaherty is preparing to take his first official visit to Tallahassee sometime in June.
The next step for the Seminoles is to find some weapons to go with Flaherty’s pledge. They’re currently in the top five for four-star wide receiver Anthony Jennings out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Four-star wide receiver Sean Green is another huge target out of Kingsland, Georgia. Florida State has been projected to land him.
