Ravens Could Benefit From Unique Offensive Coordinator History

Whether or not fans want to lean in on superstitions or history, the Baltimore Ravens have some unique situations that have followed hiring a new offensive coordinator.
Back in 2019, Greg Roman was brought on to whip the Ravens offense into shape, which led to a Lamar Jackson MVP win. In 2023, the same thing occurred when Todd Monken took over. Now, can history repeat itself with Declan Doyle?
Doyle studied under Sean Payton, and then under Ben Johnson. Both are prolific head coaches, with the latter being a first-time head coach that saw immediate success.
Despite Johnson calling offensive plays, Doyle had a huge hand in building up Caleb Williams in the 2025 season. Now, he gets to do the same with Jackson.
During the 2019 season under Roman, Jackson finished the season with 3,127 passing yards and 36 touchdowns. This included 1,206 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.
In 2023, Jackson brought in 3,678 passing yards and 24 touchdowns, along with 821 rushing yards and five touchdowns.
Both of those seasons saw Lamar lead the team to 13 wins as well. Granted, the defense did its part, but he showcased his skill set under center in a major way.
Doyle may be the new young and dynamic mind, but he may be the missing piece that stopped the Ravens in their tracks in recent years of reaching the Super Bowl. Despite being a well-built team on both sides of the ball, the Achilles heel for the organization has been in closing out playoff-caliber teams and in the playoffs.
Jackson has a 3-5 record in the postseason, and the Ravens have only been to one conference championship game during the quarterback's tenure. That is not good enough for a team that has been consistently competitive, apart from the 2021 and 2025 seasons.
What makes the 2026 season even more unique is that Doyle now has the run of the offense. He was serving under Johnson in 2025, but he is now the full-fledged offensive coordinator, so all of his design will go straight to the field.
Monken is still a solid coach and is now leading the Cleveland Browns, but maybe it was his way of thinking, along with John Harbaugh, that kept the Baltimore team from reaching its true height.
If history is to repeat itself, it will mean that Jackson will not only bounce back in 2026, but he will play with a new swagger that will lead to his third MVP award.
Thus far, Doyle's impressions have been well-documented. Defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver spoke about the offensive guru having a "rolodex" of plays in his head.
Zay Flowers called him a "genius," while Jackson referred to the new defensive outlook as being "mind-blowing." Now, the true makeup of the offense will not start to come out until the pads come on during training camp, but those are some strong words to use.
Doyle might also work himself into an early head coach opportunity if he is to lead the Ravens offense to a new level. Either way, history has shown that Jackson has flourished in each new offensive system that has been shown to him in recent years.
