Tennessee football’s 2027 recruiting class is headlined by a multi-million dollar running back, but the depth of it is performing in the early stages of the high school football season. 

The 2027 class ranks 27th in the nation, boosted by five-star ball carrier David Gabriel Georges from in-state Baylor School. Though it was a light workload for him in Week 2 of the season, his future teammates took a step forward. 

Here’s a look at how future Vols performed across the country on Aug. 28. 

Five-star running back David Gabriel Georges (2027)

Baylor School didn’t need herculean efforts from its touted ball carrier in a 37-12 win over Loudoun Sports Academy (Va.) on Aug. 28. 

Gabriel Georges, the most notable pledge in Tennessee’s 2027 recruiting class, rushed the ball just nine times for 70 yards and a score. 

With Baylor in control, his contributions weren’t as needed as they were in a Week 1 win over Brentwood Academy. Gabriel Georges opened his senior season with 172 rushing yards and 78 receiving yards, tallying three total scores under the ESPN spotlight, where he helped the Red Raiders to a 38-20 win. 

Four-star quarterback Kaden Craft (2028)

Tennessee’s first commitment of the 2028 class is off to a 2-0 start at Lake Norman High School. Kaden Craft tossed for 201 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 60% efficiency. He added 22 yards on the ground with another score in a 35-7 win. 

Craft is 17-of-30 for 365 yards and three scores in the first two weeks of the season.

Three-star quarterback Derrick Baker (2027)

The Vols’ 2027 signal-caller was met head-on with a different challenge. 

Derrick Baker faced off against five-star Tennessee target DJ Jacobs and Blessed Trinity, which got the better of him. Baker turned the ball over twice in a 21-20 loss to Blessed Trinity, falling victim to a strip sack from Jacobs.

Baker otherwise went 12-for-20 with 165 yards, a touchdown and an interception in the loss. He’s tossed for 354 yards and two scores for Milton, who’s now 1-1 this season. 

Three-star safety Jaden Butler (2027)

In a rivalry game across the state, 2027 defensive pledge put forth an all-around effort for Haywood. 

Jaden Butler contributed 182 all purpose yards — 11 carries for 81 yards, four receptions for 98 yards and one pass completion for three yards — in a 36-14 win against Covington where he scored three times. Butler also led the defense with nine total tackles. 

Through two games, Butler has 119 rushing yards and 121 receiving yards. He also has a team-leading 22 total tackles. 

Four-star linebacker Kenneth Simon II (2027) 

In another cross-town rivalry matchup, Tennessee legacy and former Alabama commit Kenneth Simon II made waves on the opening defensive play of the game Aug. 28. 

Facing Brentwood, the four-star linebacker intercepted the first play of the game that future Power Four quarterback Gavin Strang delivered. Simon jumped the route and took it 31 yards for the score in a 49-14 win for Brentwood Academy.
