The Hurricanes are in a great early spot for an elite in-state talent.
The Miami Hurricanes have been blazing on the recruiting trail this year, building a consensus top five recruiting class. With five-star headliners like Long Beach, CA CB Donte Wright, Irmo SC DL Jaiden Bryant, Lombard, IL QB Israel Abrams, and Miami Carol City WR Nick Lennear, among many others, Miami has potential impact difference makers set to continue the Hurricanes’ steady ascent for years to come.
However, Mario Cristobal has been doing work towards 2028 as well, and it starts with one of the class’s most impactful players. No. 1 overall recruit WR Brysen Wright out of Jacksonville (Mandarin) is a priority for the Hurricanes, and the feeling is clearly mutual. Wright’s interest was evident when he made a surprise visit to Coral Gables last month to check out the Hurricanes.
As such, it should be no surprise that the in-state Hurricanes up at the top of his list early in the process. According to Steve Wiltfond of On3 Sports, Miami is “a frontrunner” for Wright at this point in time.

Wiltfong quotes Wright’s family as talking about Miami’s recent success on the field and recruiting wins off of it as a reason to buy into the Hurricanes at the moment. “Miami is kind of killing it right now,” Wiltfong quoted Colby Wright, Brysen’s father, as saying.
But, according to Colby, they will take a close look at the product each team is putting on the field. Wiltfong says they are planning visits on game weekends to Miami, Florida, Florida State, Texas, and Ohio State.
The 6-3.5, 215-pound Wright checks in as the No. 1 player in the state of Florida and overall for the 2028 recruiting by On3 Sports. He’s the No. 1 wide receiver, No. 3 player in the state of Florida, and No. 4 overall player by 247 Sports. He holds offers from Florida, Texas, Ohio State, LSU, Texas A&M, Georgia, Oregon, Notre Dame, and many others.
It’s clear that Wright and his family are going to take their time and go through the process. But if the Hurricanes can put together another strong season, they should continue to find themselves firmly in the mix for the difference maker from Northeast Florida.
