The Wolverines are set to begin hosting official visits this upcoming weekend, but a pair of targets that are set to officially visit Michigan a couple weeks from now already know the day they plan on announcing their decision. We get into that and more in today’s Recruiting Roundup.
Top TE target reveals commitment date
Anthony Cartwright III has been a target of Michigan’s for quite some time. He was a priority for the old coaching staff, and he remains a priority for Kyle Whittingham and the new coaches in town. He visited the Wolverines back in January, and it was made clear that he is still a top target for Michigan.
The 6-foot-4.5, 235-pound four-star tight end from Detroit Country Day has a top list that includes Michigan, Oregon, Miami, Michigan State and LSU. He’s already taken an official visit to LSU, and he will be in Ann Arbor the weekend of June 12.
Not only does he have his official visit schedule mapped out, but he also knows when he wants to make his commitment. In a recent interview, he told On3’s Ethan McDowell ($) that he plans on announcing his decision on June 28.
“Ever since my first time I met them, they kept me up there for a couple hours,” Cartwright said. “It was good. It was good getting to sit down and see what they were talking about, and they’ve been down here a couple of times. Coach Freddie, not only do we talk about football, but we talk about family stuff too. I’ve talked with them a lot, and I also know their GA staff, their player personnel people as well. I talk to them a lot, pretty much every day.
“Every time I go out there, I have a great time, and I believe that they’re going to come in and do something great with the program.”
As it pertains to what he’s hoping to see/learn when he goes to Michigan for his official visit, Cartwright said: “Seeing if what they’re bringing here is best for me and my family because I know that, if I go to Michigan, not only am I playing some of the best football, but I’m also getting one of the best educations in the country.”
Cartwright is a Top 10 player in the state of Michigan and a Top 20 tight end in the class, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking.
OL target narrows down list, announces commitment date
Tye Kennedy is a newer target for the Wolverines — having offered him back in April, but they have already made a big impression on him. The 6-foot-6, 275-pound three-star offensive lineman recently included Michigan in his top list alongside Washington, Cal, Utah, Arizona State and Minnesota.
Kennedy also told Rivals’ Brandon Huffman ($) that he will announce his commitment on Wednesday, July 1.
“I mean, it’s Michigan. They’re really good at everything,” Kennedy said about the Wolverines.
Kennedy has four official visits scheduled. The Mesa, Arizona native begins the summer going to Cal on May 29. He will then take trips to Utah the weekend of June 5, Michigan the weekend of June 12 and Washington the weekend of June 19.
CB target: Michigan is ‘definitely really high’ on the list
2027 four-star cornerback Blake Jenkins took an unofficial visit to Michigan this spring and walked away pretty impressed. The 6-foot-0.5, 190-pounder from Houston, Texas has been in contact with cornerbacks coach Jernaro Gilford and general manager Dave Peloquin ever since that visit, including a recent trip the two took to see Jenkins at his home.
“Yes, they did (come to see me),” Jenkins told The Michigan Insider’s Brice Marich ($). “Coach JG and the GM (Dave Peloquin) came by and stopped two different times. They were telling me Michigan plays both roles well being a great elite football program and being a great school academically.
“They’re building a great foundation for my class and things are definitely going to heat up.”
Jenkins has official visits lined up for Vanderbilt (May 28), Houston (June 5), Texas (June 12) and Michigan (June 19). Alabama and SMU — the latter of which he has already taken an official visit to — make up the rest of his top list.
So where does Michigan stand heading into the next few weeks of official visits?
“Definitely really high,” Jenkins said. “I know the new staff is building something special up there. Being a kid from Houston, football has always played a huge role in my life. Seeing the winning mentality of that program just gets me hyped for what the future holds for them.”
